Welcome to the heart of Age Concern Southland - "The Center."

Here, the essence of our organization comes to life, serving as both the administrative hub and a vibrant community space.

At “The Center,” our dedicated administrative staff work tirelessly to ensure the seamless operation of all our services. It’s the engine that keeps our mission running smoothly, ensuring we can focus on what matters most – our seniors.

But “The Center” is not just an office; it’s a lively gathering place for all generations. Here, you’ll find a diverse array of activities and services designed to enrich the lives of our senior community members.

Exercise Classes

Steady As You Go

Tuesday, 11.00am, $2 per participant

45 minute peer-led class following along to a CD that focuses on strength, balance and falls prevention.

Functional Fitness Class

Friday, 10.30am, $5 per participant

30 minute class with a Personal Trainer from Fusion Fitness

A circuit of different exercises including low intensity boxing, weights, and resistance exercises with a focus on strength, balance and falls prevention

Food Services

Two course meals are available at The Centre, 12.00 noon

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 

$12 for members, $14 for non-members

If you wish to come, please phone Heather on 03 218 6351 before 10.30am

A van is available for pick-up and drop-off, of members who wish to come into The Centre for a meal on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Just leave a message on the answer phone the night before. Gold coin donation.  Please be ready for pick up by 11am.

Frozen Take-away meals are available daily

$8 for members, $10 for non-members

(delivery can be arranged for people without transport)

Played on a Friday afternoon commencing 1.00pm until approximately 4.00pm

Men’s Group

Every second Monday (the same week as NZ Super payday).  

10.00am – 11.30am, transport provided for gold coin donation.

Join like-minded men who get together for morning tea and a yarn.

Staying Safe: Refresher Courses for Older Drivers

We hold regular FREE Classroom based refresher driving courses for older drivers throughout Southland.  Contact Gillian to register your name for the next course closest to you. 

Transport

We are an assessor for the Total Mobility Scheme with gives those eligible heavily subsidised taxi fares.  Call us today to find out of you are eligible and arrange a time for an assessment. 

Sale or loan of equipment

We are often donated walkers, wheelchairs and other equipment such as shower and toilet aids which we can pass on to clients and members.  Contact us to find out what we have on hand.

We have a huge amount of helpful resources on a range of topics.  Come and have a look, help yourself or ask if you can’t find the information you are looking for. 

Education

We run a range of seminars and information events for the community throughout the year.  These are advertised here on the website, on Facebook, and on local radio and print.  Keep an eye out for future events.  Past topics covered include brain health, elder abuse prevention, scams, advance care planning, EPOA, wills, driving courses, expos and so much more!
